A few months ago, I had an impromptu photo shoot in our office for my artworks. It was perfect timing since this was before our office furniture reconfiguration. Some furniture from the swing area were relocated somewhere else (I have no idea where yet lol), while some were put into storage. (Goodbye for now, swings!)

Most of my paintings are from my old Canson watercolor pad from college. I decided to finally use them all up before I buy more watercolor paper. I believe my artwork results from this pad are brave and confident. The mindset was that, since the paper is already old, I might as well let loose and experiment. ♥

I need to get that mindset to new watercolor paper. Argh!

Sunflower.

I really hated this one. Halfway through I lost the motivation to paint this since I thought that I messed up the flowers. So I switched to my basic prang set and painted the greens and background.

I still don’t like it, but I did finish it.

It was another fun filled day. The place was jam packed! It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to roam around the venue as much. We only got to buy stickers from our friends huhuhu. But we’re happy with our income HAHAHA. Thank you so much for everyone who visited and bought from our booth!

StickerCon preparations

We got the good news that we were accepted for Stickercon 2019 last late October. So we had enough time to create new artworks for the con. I was thinking of venturing out of my floral comfort zone, and my attempts with food illustration seemed like a good idea.

I did a bunch of food illustrations from December to February. But not all of them made the cut. I was thinking of food illustrations that aren’t similar to my January Maker sister Monique’s style and theme. Something uniquely mine. That’s when I thought of dessert stickers. The way I paint is very loose and chaotic compared to Monique’s insanely detailed and perfect food illustrations.

I went with that direction and am very happy with the results.

Thanks to my officemates, I finished cutting my stickers a week before StickerCon. It was a good thing though, since Monique needed help cutting her stickers. Hannah and I helped her after work.

But I was known as a flower artist, so I created new flower stickers for the con. Thankfully, I had a bunch of new works last year that I could use. I chose some personal favorites and some popular works. This time, they are circular and with a fancy laminate.

Red Bubble was the second e-commerce website that I registered with. I heard about it through Youtube since there were a lot of videos comparing Society 6 and this website. Instead of choosing one for my online store, I decided “Why not both??”.

PROS/CONS

My Red Bubble Shop. ♥

Add New Work page.

Uploading an artwork is faster compared to its competition. You could upload with different file formats, but I prefer .png for the transparency.

Edit product page. They have a lot of selections!

From there you could edit your artworks on their different products with just a click of a button. You could resize and reposition them by just clicking on the product you want to edit. No need to open another web page. You could also upload another image per product if you don’t want to use the original. One thing that I like about Red Bubble is that I could make patterns out of my products! This makes it so easier to complete the product page. ♥

Pattern making! ♥ I didn’t use pattern for this artwork though.

The reason for uploading in .png is because Red Bubble offers their products in different colors. If I were to upload my file in .jpeg, it would also show the white in pattern making. Not a problem for myself because I clean the whites off my artworks in Photoshop.

As for the prices, you could edit every product’s % markup compared to Soc6 (where you could only edit the price for the prints). I just left mine on default which is 20%.

The title, description, and tags are the last things to input on the edit product page. They also have an option of adding another language if you want.

Overall, I’m quite happy with Red Bubble. Its much easier to upload and edit my products here compared to the competition. By uploading my artworks here, I get a bit of passive income as well. That’s the goal, but I recently just sold one item here HAHA. But its still one item!

My Society 6 shop. ♥

Society 6 was the first e-commerce website that I first registered with. I heard about it through Youtube. I found out that you could have your artworks printed in their 30+ available products. You just need to pay $1 to become a registered artist/seller.

PROS/CONS

Edit info page.

Uploading an artwork takes a bit of time, although I’m not sure if its just my internet at home. The photo above shows the next page once you’ve uploaded your artwork. Even typing the title, tags, and description has a bit of typing lag/delay. It’s weird!

Create products page.

From there you could adjust the prices for the art print, framed art print, and canvas prints. But you can’t adjust the prices anywhere else. To make your artwork available to their other products, you need to edit and resize it to the required dimensions. It can take a bit of time to get used to this, but when you finally upload your work it’s rewarding in a weird way.

Upload your artwork on different products like notebooks, bags, clocks, etc.

You can find templates for society 6 products on their website or online from other people. Some products that I’d want to try next time are the backpacks & duffle bags. I’m not sure yet how my flowers would look on those products! Haha.

Another cool thing about Society 6 is that sometimes they offer free shipping! They’re the most frequent website that offers this promo. They also have different promos every other week so be sure to check the site out.

Overall I’m happy with Society 6. By uploading my artworks, I get a bit of passive income that goes straight to my paypal account every end of the month. I also get to improve my photoshop skills by editing my artworks and learning new techniques to make my workflow faster.

The only thing left is to market myself more. HAHA.

Something unique about this site is that you after you register, you’ll need to be approved by the Inrprnt community before you could sell your works. You could also join the community by invitation from approved members. They get an invite every month.

Pros / CONs

Once approved by the community, its very easy to get started. You just need to click the blue icon above to add a new print. See below:

 

Adding a new print is easy. Just follow the instructions on the right for the file requirements.

You could also set the pricing for your products.

You could also check the additional products if you want to sell them on different products asides from art prints. They have a limited selection compared to its counterparts, but I really like the simplicity of this website. You could also set promo codes or discounts for your followers.

I also like the look of my shop. It looks so clean and organized. ♥

Planting my digital garden

#Real talk: being a freelancer is hard. I’m currently juggling my interior design projects, making new artworks, and selling it through bazaars. But I’d like to think that I’m planting all of my “seeds” in my imaginary art garden by doing everything that I love. Three of those “seeds” are my Society 6 , Redbubble , and Inprnt accounts.

These are e-commerce websites that will do the most of the work for you (printing, production, delivery, and customer sales service). All you have to do is register & upload your artwork to their websites. You can customize them into art prints, pillow cases, phone cases, and a lot more products.

Hustle kahit Hassle.

Since I can’t do international shipping for now, these e-commerce sites help me with selling my artworks online. I get a profit every time customers buy from my online shops. And, well, since these e-commerce websites do most of the work, they get a percentage of profit for every item sold.

 

In a way, I’m grateful that I tried these e-commerce websites. I got to improve my Adobe Photoshop skills preparing my artworks into their different products. Although preparing my artworks for printing takes a bit of time, it’s a small matter since I’m also fast with photoshop. And once you upload it, you just wait for it to give you passive income. I’ll write a separate blog post for each website soon. ♥

I do hope these seeds will bloom soon. ♥

I’m planning on making new products this year so I could sell them locally through bazaars. I hope I could make this come true!
