Baguio Craft Fair

A few weeks after Sticker Con MNL 2019, 3/4 of the January Makers PH team went up north to Baguio for the Baguio Craft Fair 2019. Jean participated in this fair a year ago and said it was a good event. Since Hannah and I wanted a quick vacation, we went with her this year.

Baguio Craft Fair is on its 4th year. It was held at Mount Cloud bookshop, near Brent International School Baguio. When we arrived on Day 1, it reminded me so much of our Metro Manila version – 10a Alabama Arts & Crafts fair. It was held at the open area of the place, with different crafters selling their wares under the huge makeshift roof, or even under the pine trees.

What about us? We were located under the pine trees HAHA. No worries though! Since we’re in Baguio, where the weather is cool and the sun is not that hot.

Hannah’s mom also asked us to sell her handmade knitted booties. They were our best seller HAHAHA.

We took turns manning our booth. Sometimes I’d wander off and get coffee (they encourage everyone to bring their own utensil/tumblers). Or sometimes I’d take photos of the place and just breathe the fresh air.

We also had an extra task for this trip – which was to take decent photos of our products. Thanks to the huge space, we had lots of areas we could take photos from. It was also in our aesthetic – which was nature. Reasons for these photos to be announced hopefully soon!

It rained in the late afternoon, so we had to pack up and cut our bazaar time earlier than expected. For Day 2, the organizers moved the vendors located in the open area to inside the house.

We had more space to display our products. More space for my postcards! ♥

Anddd that’s it! Thank you for sticking around until the end of this lengthy post. Based from this experience, I would conclude that this event is really similar with 10A Alabama. The crowd prefers more handmade items rather than stickers. My postcards and bags were a hit here, I should have bought more original works for sale lol. Oh well! Here’s to another good experience. ♥

Will we join again next year? Hmm, we’ll see. ♥

Daluyong

I am proud to announce that I am part of Pineapple Lab‘s watercolor exhibit entitled “Daluyong“. ♥

Pineapple Lab presents Daluyong, a group exhibit featuring the works of emerging artists who have shown proficiency and artistry in the medium of watercolor.

Collected from a call-out that engaged over a hundred entries, Pineapple Lab has curated a show that exemplifies the versatility (and volatility) of this deceptively simple medium. With a diverse selection of watercolor works on a variety of surfaces, Daluyong looks to prove that this delicate medium is a force unto itself. Celebrate the rainy season with us as we dive into the world of watercolor!

Daluyong opens on August 30, 2019 at 6 PM. Works will be available for viewing starting August 30, 2019 to September 20, 2019. Pineapple Lab Gallery at 6053 R. Palma Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City. Operating hours are 11 AM to 6 PM from Tuesdays through Friday.

During my final interview at Studio West, they asked me what are my goals in the future. I remembered that the first thing that I answered was to be featured in an exhibit or art gallery. Nothing office related, I think! And then a year later, it happened! Pineapple Lab had an open call for artists and I applied. I’ll be attending the event on Friday with my Inggo. Stickercon Haul

For this year’s Stickercon, I was the designated errand girl for our group. This means that I’m the one outside our table fixing our products, talking to potential customers, buying drinks/food for the group, and exchanging barya from our other friends HAHAHA. This also meant that I had more freedom to roam around to buy stuff from the rest of the 200 exhibitors.

Stickercon MNL 2019

It’s finally time for the main event – Stickercon MNL 2019! It was held at Bayanihan Center last March 16, 2019. We’re so happy that our group was accepted again for the second time! This time, we’re prepared:

StickerCon preparations

StickerConMNL 2019 is done, but I still haven’t blogged about the preparations. And there were a LOT of preparations.

What my desk looked like the past few months.

We got the good news that we were accepted for Stickercon 2019 last late October. So we had enough time to create new artworks for the con. I was thinking of venturing out of my floral comfort zone, and my attempts with food illustration seemed like a good idea.

I did a bunch of food illustrations from December to February. But not all of them made the cut. I was thinking of food illustrations that aren’t similar to my January Maker sister Monique’s style and theme. Something uniquely mine. That’s when I thought of dessert stickers. The way I paint is very loose and chaotic compared to Monique’s insanely detailed and perfect food illustrations.

Thanks to my officemates, I finished cutting my stickers a week before StickerCon. It was a good thing though, since Monique needed help cutting her stickers. Hannah and I helped her after work.

Draw Native Trees

Another thing that I wanted to write about from last year is the #DrawNativeTrees contest held by the Forest Foundation Philippines in order to raise awareness of our beautiful local trees. They posted a list of the trees that anyone can traditionally draw or paint. You can post as many paintings as you want as long as you follow their rules of using the hashtag and tagging @forestfoundationph and their representative artist Cynthia Arre (the amazing wife of graphic novel artist Arnold Arre).

I have never painted a tree seriously. All I ever did during my “Interior Plantscaping and Flower Arrangement” subject back in college were careless and loose strokes. But what motivated me was the prize. I really, really wanted the Bamboo tumbler HAHAHA.

Honestly, I never knew that we had so many endemic flowering trees in the Philippines. I even thought that the champaca was endemic here. The common among the list was Narra (our National Tree) and the Ylang-ylang.

So I researched more about the said list and got surprising results. I painted a bunch to submit to the contest:

Komikon 2018

Since I blogged about Komiket last year, I thought that not blogging about the Philippines’ biggest comics convention is unfair haha. Similar with Komiket, these photos were the ones that I used in my Instagram stories:

I’m not sure if I’ve posted it before here on my blog. But another fact about me is that I LOVE collecting local comic books. I don’t know why. There’s something unique about our local comic scene. Maybe its the humor? So whenever I have some spare cash or if I really, really, like the art. I will support them by buying their books or by pre-ordering.

Finally bought all of Toto Madayag’s books! He had a good deal due to the release for Book 3.

Apparently, you’re eligible to the raffle if you support a pre-order from one of the participating artists in Komikon. I won something HAHA.

Planner Soiree

First off, I’m back again HAHA. WordPress has updated into a weird editor and this is my first blog entry with it. Let’s hope I won’t get angry with this change.

A few months ago, the January Makers PH team was invited to become one of the sellers for the Planner Soiree 2.0 .

This was only our 2nd bazaar for the year! We were sooo busy with our lives that our bazaar team took a backseat for a while. We were invited to this event due to our participation last Sticker Con.

Komiket October 2018

Last month, I attended Komiket at Eton Centris with Hannah and her friend. It’s been a while since I’ve been an attendee instead of a seller. I was curious about the artist scene and wanted to check it out. It didn’t disappoint! There’s a ton of artists selling their original and fanart works in stickers, art prints, and comics. I also saw my friends selling there so I HAD to support them. ♥ So here is my Komiket 2018 haul taken from my IG Stories.

Just Add Water 3 / Agueda

After a long hiatus, one of my favorite events was held again last month! This is Just Add Water 3 at SM Aura. It was organized by the members of WatercoloristsPH.

I usually attend this event with Hannah and the rest of the January Makers PH girls. But due to their work schedule, they couldn’t make it this time. Thankfully, Aira and Inggo accompanied me! ♥

I allowed myself to splurge on watercolor materials for this event. Since Craft Carrot was on sale that day, I finally bought a Daniel Smith Sap Green! It was around 450 even with the discount, but I know that this will last me for a long time. ♥ I tried to find a brush holder from the other sellers, unfortunately they don’t have it huhu.

One of the reasons that we went here is because of Agueda. I ordered a custom 4″x4″ cookie and some Paint-your-Own cookie set from her to give as gifts. Of course, I painted my own set right away.
