Daluyong

I am proud to announce that I am part of Pineapple Lab‘s watercolor exhibit entitled “Daluyong“. ♥

Pineapple Lab presents Daluyong, a group exhibit featuring the works of emerging artists who have shown proficiency and artistry in the medium of watercolor.

Collected from a call-out that engaged over a hundred entries, Pineapple Lab has curated a show that exemplifies the versatility (and volatility) of this deceptively simple medium. With a diverse selection of watercolor works on a variety of surfaces, Daluyong looks to prove that this delicate medium is a force unto itself. Celebrate the rainy season with us as we dive into the world of watercolor!

Daluyong opens on August 30, 2019 at 6 PM. Works will be available for viewing starting August 30, 2019 to September 20, 2019. Pineapple Lab Gallery at 6053 R. Palma Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City. Operating hours are 11 AM to 6 PM from Tuesdays through Friday.

During my final interview at Studio West, they asked me what are my goals in the future. I remembered that the first thing that I answered was to be featured in an exhibit or art gallery. Nothing office related, I think! And then a year later, it happened! Pineapple Lab had an open call for artists and I applied. I’ll be attending the event on Friday with my Inggo. Hope to see you there. ♥

Art Trade with Argie

Homhayghad. This blog’s been hibernating for a while. I had some personal issues that made me unmotivated from doing my usual routine. The issues are not yet addressed, but I’m fighting it! ♥

Anyway! During my hibernation, I still saved my photos into folders for future blog posts. One of those is an art trade with a friend of mine on Instagram: Argie_Mae! She was one of my first IG friends. I really love her ink drawings, one glance at her works and you know that it’s her style. When I asked for an art trade last 2018, I was so happy that she accepted! This one took a while since we were both busy with work, but we finally pushed through with sending each other our works this 2019. And it was worth the wait!

Her original art! I love these soooo much! ♥

More original art, and stickers! ♥

I usually joke online that she’s my washi tape fairy god mother. And sineryoso na niya on this trade OMG. ♥

Bigla ako nahiya sa sinend ko: just my original watercolor painting and some stickers. I need to send my new stickers to her soon! This was the painting that I sent to her:

Office Photoshoot

A few months ago, I had an impromptu photo shoot in our office for my artworks. It was perfect timing since this was before our office furniture reconfiguration. Some furniture from the swing area were relocated somewhere else (I have no idea where yet lol), while some were put into storage. (Goodbye for now, swings!)

My favorite artwork so far. My peony painting!

Zoomed in goodness. ♥ Also featured here.

Most of my paintings are from my old Canson watercolor pad from college. I decided to finally use them all up before I buy more watercolor paper. I believe my artwork results from this pad are brave and confident. The mindset was that, since the paper is already old, I might as well let loose and experiment. ♥

I need to get that mindset to new watercolor paper. Argh!

One of my earlier paintings from this watercolor pad.

Sunflower.

I really hated this one. Halfway through I lost the motivation to paint this since I thought that I messed up the flowers. So I switched to my basic prang set and painted the greens and background.

I still don’t like it, but I did finish it.

An attempt at landscape painting. Reference photo from a friend. Also featured the painting process here.

I think I just went wild with this one. HAHA.

And that’s it for now. Busy weeks ahead!

Stickercon MNL 2019

It’s finally time for the main event – Stickercon MNL 2019! It was held at Bayanihan Center last March 16, 2019. We’re so happy that our group was accepted again for the second time! This time, we’re prepared:

Our table ♥

My part of the table: flower stickers, postcards, and my new food stickers! ♥

The popular flower stickers in 2 set varieties and the stamp sticker peel. ♥

Close-up of my food stickers. Everyone LOVED the taho stickers, I almost sold these out!

Circle Stickers ♥ I’m so proud of the quality & results!

Monique’s part of the table. Her best selling 90s candies, Chichirya set, and Biscuit sets are lined up front. She also made new sticker packs.

Close up of her packs. ♥ 10 pcs of glossy stickers per pack.

Her new sticker packs: the Kakanin set and Handaan set. ♥

Hannah’s side with our logo. ♥

She made a bunch of new fashion girls. ♥

And new dog breed sticker packs. ♥

And finally, seamountainco! She brought her new handmade watercolor set to the event and some postcards. But what was surprising is…

Her new sticker packs! And look at the packaging! ♥ I love it!

It was another fun filled day. The place was jam packed! It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to roam around the venue as much. We only got to buy stickers from our friends huhuhu. But we’re happy with our income HAHAHA. Thank you so much for everyone who visited and bought from our booth!

StickerCon preparations

StickerConMNL 2019 is done, but I still haven’t blogged about the preparations. And there were a LOT of preparations.

What my desk looked like the past few months.

We got the good news that we were accepted for Stickercon 2019 last late October. So we had enough time to create new artworks for the con. I was thinking of venturing out of my floral comfort zone, and my attempts with food illustration seemed like a good idea.

Almond croissant.

Salmon bagel.

Totoro cream puffs.

Strawberry taho.

I did a bunch of food illustrations from December to February. But not all of them made the cut. I was thinking of food illustrations that aren’t similar to my January Maker sister Monique’s style and theme. Something uniquely mine. That’s when I thought of dessert stickers. The way I paint is very loose and chaotic compared to Monique’s insanely detailed and perfect food illustrations.

I went with that direction and am very happy with the results.

Dessert stickers (and a salmon bagel).

The complete set. ♥

Thanks to my officemates, I finished cutting my stickers a week before StickerCon. It was a good thing though, since Monique needed help cutting her stickers. Hannah and I helped her after work.

Her best selling chichirya set. ♥

Her biscuit set. ♥

2 new sticker sheets. The Handaan and Kakanin. ♥

But I was known as a flower artist, so I created new flower stickers for the con. Thankfully, I had a bunch of new works last year that I could use. I chose some personal favorites and some popular works. This time, they are circular and with a fancy laminate.

The circle sticker set. ♥

They look so pretty when laid out like this.

Limited post card prints. ♥

Next up would be the Stickercon art tambay after the pre-con meeting, and the Stickercon event itself. I promise to blog about it soon. ♥

Recent SW Art Tambays

Catching up on blog posts. In our office, we attempt to have weekly art tambays every Tuesday. Unfortunately, only two pushed through (and two where my team were the only attendees lol).

January art tambay participants: Louie, Anjo, Me, Me-al.

I was in the middle of preparing for StickerCon during this time. The matcha parfait was the one I had in mind for watercolor practice. I did the large peony while waiting for the parfait to dry. It’s still not done, though.

February art tambay.

The second art tambay was in February. This time we invited more people and finally, somebody remembered to bring their own art materials HAHA.

Paint by Numbers by a lot of people, Bird artwork collaboration by 3 people, my sakura flower, Louie’s digital artwork, a girl painting by Von (Get well soon!)

We didn’t organize a March art tambay due to my stickercon preps. I hope we could organize an April one with more members!

Art Tambays

I’m in the middle of preparing my products for Stickercon 2019, so I don’t have much time to blog recently. But I know I have a bunch of stuff to blog about still. One of those is my art tambays with my closest friends.

At our usual Banawe place with Hannah and Aira. I painted an apple blossom that day.

I also bought a bunch of post cards from Aira. So proud of this girl! ♥

Took these photos at my office LOL.

Waiting for Christmas eve at Inggo’s relative’s place. I had an impromptu art tambay with his cousin.

CBTL Art tambay with Clair, Hannah and Aira. The peony artwork is the most photogenic artwork that I made. It was used in different promotions lol.

Art vs Artist 2018

A summary of my 2018 art year.

Art vs Artist is trending again on Instagram. I did this last year too.

I have no idea why they’re posting a 2018 art year summary at this time of 2019. But anyway!

These artworks stood out for me. I went ahead and did darker backgrounds for some of my florals. Inktober was short, but very fulfilling. The concepts I made were darker I think, but still had my style shown through the flowy ink and flowers hahaha.

And also a major transformation to me LOL. Back to my straight bangs but with the shortesttt haircut ever. I said goodbye to my butt-length hair after 2-3 years. I also need prescription glasses now, so we bought one from Owndays HAHAHA. ♥

Custom Ceramic Plates

One of my Christmas gifts to myself last year are these gorgeous custom ceramic plates by neshoi. She’s an artist friend who creates ceramic stuff like earrings and plates. I asked her if she could create custom shaped ceramic plates for me, and she took the challenge. I gave her my sketches and she created them from scratch/clay. I love them so much! ♥

Obviously my designs are flowers: a peony and an orchid. The peony’s purpose is for IG feed goals (that I haven’t used YET), while the orchid is for everyday use. ♥ I heard that a ceramic or porcelain palette is the best mixing surface for watercolor. And yes, I agree! The colors are vibrant, paints stay wet, mixing is a breeze, and apparently clean up is easy as well.

December Art Tambay

So sorry for the lack of posts here on the blog. It’s just that… I kind of lost motivation to blog weekly as I did before. I don’t have a lot of events that I could blog here anyway. But I will still blog so I could document those happy events that I had with friends and family. Something that I could look back to.

Another one of my backlogs is an art tambay with my cousin during her Christmas break. It’s been a while since we got together at their place due to her being busy with her thesis.

It was also a long time since I last painted that day due to being busy with work and the holidays. I was glad that I got to paint again. I started creating new pieces for my participation at StickerCon MNL 2019. Yes, we got in again. ♥

The warmup painting is my blueberry cobbler artwork. This is the perfect warmup since it was all loose strokes.

Thinking of new subjects to paint for Stickercon was a no brainer. I wanted to continue creating food illustrations.

I also brought this for the art tambay so I could finish it. Just needed a few touch ups.

And then back to my loose crazy phase. I wanted to paint a friend’s photo during her hike at Yosemite. Just did light pencil sketches and went crazy dumping color after color.

Not bad for a first time, I think?

Looking at my current artwork… I think a change of subjects is a good thing? So I won’t be labeled as the girl who only paints flowers lol. I hope to do more food illustrations and landscapes this year. Let’s look forward to that! ♥
