Just Add Water + Ink

After a week, I’m still on the #JAWInk2017 & #CampJAWI high. ♥ This event was great! We went on Saturday at around 1pm and the venue was crowded compared last year! There were a lot of booths again selling watercolor & calligraphy materials.

First agenda was to visit Agueda Manila‘s booth again. Thanks to Dandi for reserving the square pieces for Hannah and I! ♥

Lezz do this. Colors were food coloring.

Finished product ♥ Mine on the left / Right is Hannah’s.

Community art wall again. These are 4″ x 6″ postcards created by various watercolorists. The freckled girl left of Sailor Moon is Hannah’s. The pink gerbera left of the hydrangea one is mine. ♥

#Art Tambay at Craft Coffee again.

Since there were no tables available at the event itself, we decided again to hang out at Craft Coffee. Hannah & I were the first ones of the #January Girls to arrive. We took over the long table at Craft, woohoo! January Girl members present were: Me, HannahJean (Thanks again for the watercolor huhuhu), Monique, and our new member (haha) Naresa!

Here are some of my instagram posts that day:

It was so much fun! I also got to meet other Watercolorist ph members as well. ♥ I can’t wait for the next one! As for now, I need to try out the watercolor that I got from seamountainco. ♥ You can order your own handmade watercolor from seamountainco through this link.

Art Fair 2017

A few weeks ago, the January Girls met up for another Art Tambay at Makati during the Art Fair Philippines weekend. ♥ We chose Fundamental Coffee as our location. Heavy rains poured the whole afternoon, so it took a while for us to be complete.

Pretty interiors.

Getting to Fundamental Coffee is easier than the previous coffee shop we went to. From Glorietta Mall, exit through the Glorietta 2 exit (the one with the new activity center/waterfall entrance), and just cross the street to Park Terraces.

The menu.

Hannah and I got there first. I ordered the Double chocolate mocha & their Fundamental French Toast. Hannah ordered their best seller, which was Cappuccino with butterscotch. We talked about the interiors of the cafe while waiting for our orders.

Their fundamental french toast was heavenly. ♥ Three hefty slices of french toast with honey & nuts. So delicious!

Double chocolate mocha. The chocolate foam was a unique touch to this drink.

We invited another person to our art tambay. She was our (Aiza & I) group mate back then in the ATC trade last year. Her name is Monique. She makes the yummiest food illustrations on instagram! I did her portrait during this art tambay. Speaking of portraits – I did portraits of the girls as gifts for this meet-up. I’m glad they liked it. ♥

Flat lay attempt of my table space lol.

That cute tin can pictured above is from seamountainco. A local store that makes its own artist-grade pigments! Thank you Jean for gifting us a sample of your watercolor paint! I can’t wait to make art with this. ♥ I did try it out during our art tambay, and its really pigmented! A small amount of paint goes a long way for this. I can’t wait to experiment with it.

After that, we decided to go to The Link for the Art Fair. This event is held at the top floors of a parking lot building. There was a long line to the entrance. But it was orderly and the management/security did their jobs well. We went on a Saturday so the venue was crowded. This event showcases the best of the Philippines’ contemporary art. Here are some of the paintings that caught my eye:

Mass hysteria number two by Liv Vinluan.

Ramon Orlina glass sculptures.

Takahiro Hirabayashi paintings.

And that’s it for the month of February. For March, we plan on meeting again at the Just Add Water + Ink event. Hope to see you there!

January Girls

We had an art tambay last Sunday. Attendees were: Aiza, whom Jean & I met at the WatercoloristPH Art Trade last January; Sylvie – Aiza’s friend, and my bestfriend Hannah. We decided to meet at Makati since this is the “center” for the whole group. Jean recommended Local Edition, a coffee shop near Greenbelt.

Interior.

Title of this blog post was from Aiza’s comment that we’re the January Girls because that’s the month that we met last year. I liked it, so there lol.

Our messy table.

I wish for more art tambays like this. I’m glad that everyone has the same interests & similar personalities. The whole afternoon was spent on chatting, giggling, painting (and sharing our paint!) and sharing watercolor papers. I’m really happy that I met all of them. ♥

My painting. I decided to paint a bouquet. ♥

Final.

Our table. The baristas gave us Manila paper placemats to protect the table. lol.

Gifts from friends. Postcard from Jean. Calligraphy from Aiza. Stickers from Sylvie. ♥ Thank you!

The interior of Local Edition only accommodates a small amount of people. We took over the center table for our group. Coffee was good! I tried their hot cafe latte for round 1, and the iced version on round 2. The male barista was nice, the one who took over, not so much. Its as if she was glad that our group was leaving. Huhu. Let me share something from an old blog:

As much as possible we’d like to do 2 rounds as courtesy to the cafes for staying that long. (At least its better than staying the whole day and ordering just one drink, in my opinion.) We also don’t use the electrical outlets, as we just lug around our art materials and draw / chat the whole time we’re together. Also, if there’s an influx of customers in need of seats, we either offer our extra seats or leave the place itself so the next customers could sit. 🙂

So, we did that after 4 hours. Hmm. We’re planning on meeting up again next month. Hopefully that follows through. (With more members?!). ♥

Portraits (Nov-Dec 2016)

First of all- Happy New Year ! May 2017 bring more positive vibes to all. ♥

At my last job, I was known as the person who makes watercolor portraits as a birthday gift/farewell gift/good luck-for-board exams gift for my office mates. And, well, for the last time, I did portraits for my closest friends and colleagues there as my farewell gift to them. I also did some portrait practice during a get together with friends. ♥

The last time that I posted about my artworks was way back in October during the Just Add Water 2 event. So finally, here is the compilation post for November & December.

Just Add Water 2

(First of all, I’m sorry I’m not good at events blogging. HAHA.)

Last week was the Just Add Water 2 event organized by the members of WatercoloristsPH! It was held at The Podium mall Atrium. There were art stores, artists selling their wares, and art workshops. Last year’s Just Add Water event was so much fun that I wanted my artist friends to experience it too. So I invited Hannah and Hasay  to the event. Hasay invited her friend Yuki as well.♥

We found out that our block mate from college is one of the food merchants . She owns Agueda, a dessert shop selling brigadeiros. For the event, she also sold sugar cookies which you can paint on and eat after.

This was a hit with the kids there. It was a fun experience! We’ll do better next time. After the sugar cookie painting session, we wanted to paint our Artist Trading Cards but there were no seats left. So we decided to do our Art Tambay / painting session at Craft. Thank you, Craft, for the delicious drinks.

I had a lot of fun. I got to do an Art Tambay at a coffee shop with new and old friends, painting and talking about our similar interests. Really grateful. I wish for more days like this. ♥ Hopefully somewhere up north next time?

August – September 2016 Portraits

I’ve been pretty silent last September. (Only 3 posts ehmeged I’M SORRY). I’m still doing art but I haven’t compiled them yet until now. A lot of people left our office recently, and a lot more to come I think. I made portraits for them as farewell gifts, good luck gifts for their board exams, and some birthday gifts as well. My art doesn’t exactly look like them but I hope they like it. ♥ Here’s the compilation from August to September:

For better work opportunities?

In other news – Instagram won’t work in my blog anymore HUHU. The hyperlink thing won’t work even with tech support. My Inggo is trying to fix it though! Hopefully it’ll work soon.

I have to do my artist trading cards for the weekend event. Argh! I don’t have the time yet due to work deadlines. Sigh. Good luck to me! ♥

Art Tambay

I had an art tambay with Jean & Hasay at Greenbelt last week. We’ve been planning this for MONTHS!

I met Jean through instagram. We first met at a cafe in Maginhawa, and ever since then, we meet at watercolor events organized by the local watercolor group. She’s a very down to earth person, passionate with her craft, and always willing to share her art materials with me lol.

2016-09-st-marc-drink-pepito

I just wanted to share how CUTE the petito is. It’s 99php per pack.

As for Hasay, we’ve been friends since 2002/2003! But this is the first time that we actually bonded. (At first I was saying that it was our first time to meet & talk, but I was wrong! We actually met before HUHUHU I’M SORRY.)

Serenitea with Hannah

Back then when I was still in college, I had a blockmate who had the same hobbies as me. We both love Japanese anime, music, drinks, and drawing. So we bonded over that. We were also sort of neighbors (within 20 mins of each other) so we had no problems meeting up even if its impromptu. 90% of the time, we meet at Serenitea Banawe:

This Serenitea branch already had 3 renovations I think. We were already patrons of Serenitea wayyy back at their N. Roxas – Banawe branch! When you think of it, 7 years!? Emeged. We didn’t do plates or our thesis here as I recall. We did however, met here during our practicum meetings prior to our last college plate, our review sessions for the board exam after college, and during our every other month catch up as licensed interior designers or just our art tambays. What I would like to say is that – this branch holds a special place in my heart ♥. HAHA. REALLY!

Anyway, I met up with Hannah 2 weeks back for our drawing session. I brought out my Prang watercolor set and some Canson Montval sheets I got from my SG trip.

This is my Escoda Reserva brush. I’m not sure if its supposed to look like that but I don’t like it. Will try to get it replaced ASAP. This is expensive!

I wish for more days like this.

Winsor & Newton Cotman

After months of deciding, I finally bought my own Winsor & Newton Cotman set!

2016 08 W&N box

Ta daaaaa ♥

Since I can’t afford the 45 set yet, this will do. I ordered mine from The Opinionated Store. It was my first online purchase from a local art supply store. It was hassle free! I just messaged my order on their Facebook page, selected the method of payment (Online bank) and delivery (LBC), and I got it the next day ♥.

Portraits (July 2016)

I’m back to doing portraits! The “to do” list is still long but at least there’s progress. It’s a weird yet fuzzy feeling that there are people who requested an artwork from me. So here are the ones I did this July. Apparently, July is also the #WorldWaterColorMonth.

My portraits are not 100% the same with the reference photos, but I feel like I’m improving a bit. As usual, progress and continuity are important to me. Whenever I browse my blog, I feel this sense of accomplishment like “Hey, I did something for this month! I’m productive! I didn’t just laze around & played video games all weekend!”. Haha.

Here’s to more art in the future.

Cheers.
